Potatoes. Storage parameters
Recommended Storage Volume
Potatoes should be stored in single-bulk volumes of up to 3,000 tons for optimal airflow and temperature stability.
Fresh-air supply requirement: 120 m³ per ton of produce.
Optimal Temperature (t°C)
Storage temperature depends on the potato variety and its intended use:
-
Table potatoes: +3°C
-
French fry/processing potatoes: +8°C
General storage range: +3°C to +8°C
Humidity
Maintain relative humidity at 95% to prevent dehydration and preserve tuber firmness.
CO₂ Levels
Excess carbon dioxide must be continually removed.
Maximum CO₂ concentration: ≤ 5%.
Storage Life
-
Year-round storage with refrigeration equipment.
-
Until April when using an aeration (active ventilation) system.
Storage Facility Parameters
Once placed into storage, potatoes must go through four key post-harvest processes:
-
Drying
-
Curing
-
Cooling
-
Long-term storage
Each phase requires a specific airflow and temperature mode.
Potatoes can be stored in bulk or container systems:
-
Bulk storage without humidification: maximum pile height 4.5 m
-
Bulk storage with humidification: maximum pile height 6 m
