Blast cooling chambers for berries
After harvest, berries must be cooled rapidly using a blast-air cooling system. This slows metabolism, retains moisture, preserves vitamins, flavor, and visual appeal — all crucial for profitable storage and shipping.
How It Works
Cold air is forced through stacked berry crates using strong airflow. Exhaust fans push air evenly through the produce, often with horticultural fleece to promote uniform cooling. Temperature sensors placed deep within the stacks monitor progress; fan speed is adjustable depending on product type and batch size. Once cooled, berries are moved into chilling rooms and stored under controlled conditions until shipped.
Mobile Cooling Chambers
Portable solutions, like the “A-Berry Cube,” allow cooling in the field or at remote locations. Standard features include dual compressors, automatic control systems, variable fan speeds, and customizable layouts — ensuring quality preservation even with limited infrastructure.
