Long-Term Table Potato Storage Facility with High-Capacity Aspiration, Refrigeration & Humidification
Objective
-
Develop a long-term storage facility for table potatoes with minimal logistical restrictions for warehouse operations
-
Maintain potato quality, marketability, and weight until July, even with mixed varieties and multi-farm supply
-
Support high-density stacking with container heights up to 7.2 meters
Distinguishing Requirements
-
Potatoes from multiple farms stored in a single facility
-
Wide variety of potato cultivars, each requiring stable microclimate conditions
-
High stacking height (7.2 m), increasing pressure on airflow and humidity management
-
Need for reliable season-long microclimate control in warm regions
Solution
The facility integrates three core systems engineered for long-term potato preservation:
1. Aspiration Ventilation System
Ensures stable airflow through densely stacked containers and maintains uniform temperature across the storage volume.
2. Mechanical Refrigeration in Each Room
Independent cooling for every storage room allows precise temperature control for mixed varieties and varying intake temperatures.
3. Artificial “Pad Cooling” Humidification
Maintains optimal humidity levels, prevents dehydration, and protects product quality during long-term storage—even under high-density stacking.
Together, these systems ensure high storage stability throughout the season, especially in hot or variable climates typical of India, Africa, KSA, and the UAE.

Project Insights
Lexo Farm is one of the few enterprises capable of shipping the majority of its potato crop during the summer period, thanks to strict adherence to microclimate technology and best-practice storage processes.
Agrovent has been supporting the client with continuous system optimization for over three years.
In 2017, the farm decided to increase capacity from 715 to 900 tons. During the off-season, the microclimate system was re-engineered and upgraded, enabling expansion without the need to build entirely new storage chambers - achieving substantial cost savings.
