High-Performance Berry Cooling, Sorting & Storage Complex with 2,500 kg/hour Capacity
Objective
-
Develop a high-efficiency complex for intensive cooling, sorting, storage, and shipment of fresh berries.
-
Ensure a processing productivity of 2,500 kg per hour, maintaining maximum freshness, nutritional value, and flavor under hot-climate conditions.
Solution
To prevent berries from losing their taste and nutritional properties during harvest in regions with elevated temperatures, the facility utilizes a rapid blast-cooling technology.
Blast cooling operates by forcing large volumes of cold air through the stacked berry trays, allowing the product to cool evenly and quickly. This effect is achieved by installing additional high-capacity suction fans inside the cooling chambers and integrating a dedicated air-distribution wall.
Key cooling parameters:
-
Cooling cycle duration: ~40 minutes
-
Temperature range: 0°C to +1°C
-
Purpose: Fast removal of field heat to extend shelf life and maintain marketability
This setup ensures the berries enter the storage phase with stabilized internal temperature, greatly improving post-harvest quality - essential for hot regions of India, Africa, the Gulf, and the Middle East.
Project Features
For this project, Agrovent engineered a custom material-twisting system to lift and adjust the protective tarp covering the berries inside the intensive cooling chamber.
The operator can manually raise the tarp and set the correct length using three airflow parameters:
-
Air outlet
-
Air through the chamber volume
-
Air through the product stack
This system ensures uniform cooling, minimizes moisture loss, and prevents uneven airflow distribution.
