Seed Potato Storage Facility with Aspiration-Based Microclimate and Bitzer Refrigeration

Objective

  • Manufacture, deliver, and supervise the installation of a complete refrigeration system for seed potato storage

  • Supply and install pressure and dispersal fans, including wind-protection elements and flap assemblies

  • Equip two container-storage sections inside a 20 × 32 m chamber with aspiration mats and optimized airflow infrastructure

  • Ensure precise microclimate conditions for long-term storage of seed potatoes, which require tighter quality parameters than commercial potatoes

Solution

The storage chamber is equipped with Aspiration System technology, designed specifically for efficient potato storage in warm and variable climates.

How the Aspiration System Works

The effectiveness of the system depends on the correct selection, positioning, and coordination of all ventilation and refrigeration components:

  • Ventilation is the core component, used for drying, curing, temperature reduction, and maintaining stable storage conditions during the main storage season

  • Refrigeration is activated when ambient temperatures are too high (e.g., May–June) or when a rapid temperature decrease is required for incoming produce

Installed Systems

  • Refrigeration unit based on a Bitzer compressor — ensuring reliable, energy-efficient, and stable performance

  • Humidification system: stationary–mobile humidifier ST-A-BEV, maintaining moisture levels and preventing excessive dehydration

  • Pressure and dispersal fans with wind-protection features and automatic flap systems

  • Aspiration mats for optimal airflow within containerized seed potato storage

This configuration ensures uniform cooling, controlled humidity, and protection of seed potato physiological quality - crucial for customers in India, Africa, UAE, and Saudi Arabia dealing with hot and fluctuating climates.
