1,000-Ton Potato Storage Chamber with Advanced Microclimate Control

Creation of a Microclimate System for Storing Potatoes in 1,000-Ton Container Facilities

Container-based potato storage facilities with a capacity of around 1,000 tons are among the most effective formats for large-scale agricultural operations. This type of chamber is suitable for long-term storage of potatoes, onions, and beets, ensuring consistent quality and minimal post-harvest losses.

A well-engineered air preparation chamber is critical for stabilizing the temperature, humidity, and airflow—all essential parameters for maintaining crop quality in warm and hot climates common across India, the Middle East, and Africa. Fresh air enters through intake valves, where it is conditioned to the required temperature and humidity levels. Recirculation valves, heaters, humidifiers, and coolers maintain the optimal microclimate before the air enters the storage area.

Project Objective

To manufacture, supply, install, and commission a complete ventilation and refrigeration system for a 1,000-ton potato storage facility (36×15 m).

The project required:

  • Two independent climate-control zones within a single chamber

  • Short installation time without compromising system reliability

  • Custom-produced ventilation grilles matching the client’s color scheme

Solution

The chamber is equipped with Dragon-M microclimate technology, engineered to provide stable long-term storage conditions for vegetables under varying ambient temperatures.

Dragon-M advantages:

  • Efficient cooling and air circulation

  • Uniform temperature and humidity distribution

  • Controlled removal of CO₂ and other respiration by-products

  • High energy efficiency under hot-climate operating conditions

The refrigeration unit is built on a Bitzer compressor, providing reliable operation even under peak loads.
The entire system is connected to Croptimiz-r controllers, enabling remote monitoring, analytics, and automated climate adjustments.

Key Features
